Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I started off some of my favorite work with a general Creative Writing class. This was my first exposure to a workshop in college. Over the semester, I read and commented on my peers’ work while revising my own poem, short story, and ten-minute play. One of my favorite pieces was “The Poet’s Curse” because it ended up becoming a contrapuntal (a poem whose lines can be read from top to bottom or left to right).

Poetry

I practiced a variety of craft and forms throughout the ages in this workshop. Since I simultaneously took this courses with a World Literature class about poetry, I was breathing poetic devices for an entire semester! One of my favorite opportunities in this course was creating a poetic form (the horseman’s sonnet) in honor of my grandfather. I also enjoyed hearing what my poetic narrators sounded like to other readers within workshops, which allowed me to modify them to achieve the tone that I wanted.
